Commissioner General - José Proença Branco

Born in 1958, Mr. José Proença Branco was appointed by the Central Government as Commissioner General of the Unitary Police Service under the nomination of the third-term Chief Executive of Macao SAR on November 23, 2009. He has been appointed as one of the principal officials since 2000 and served in the same position during the first and second term Macao SAR government.

Mr. Branco joined the Public Security Police in 1983 and has taken up different positions in various departments during his service, namely, Commanding Officer of the Special Duties Unit, Commanding Officer of the Police Tactical Unit and in March 1999 he was appointed as Commissioner.

In 1995, Mr. Branco has obtained a Bachelor degree majoring in Police Science from the Academy of Public Security Forces. He has also completed related courses including ‘Leadership and Command Course’, ‘Internal Security Affairs Course’, ‘Staff Officer Course’, ‘Special Duties Course’, ‘Crisis Management Course’ and ‘Aircraft Counter-Terrorism Course’.

Mr. Branco was rewarded a Professional Merit Medal in 1998 as well as seven public awards and two citations while serving the police force.
